Getting ready

Saturday was a beautiful day, and very busy. Chuck and Ian brought the drinks over to the park and shanghied Charles to help set things up. I got some hams, then Vikki, Fergie, and I brought them over. This was a "pot luck" reception, with family and friends bringing the food. We filled the walk-in cooler from its guzzle to its zatch. I also brought a bucket of azeala flowers from the bushes in front of our house. They obligingly blossomed exactly appropriately to be the table decorations.

Mari and Erin spent the day "in seclusion". Actually, sleeping after the partying of the previous nights, getting nails done, getting the flowers for their crowns and bouquets from the Farmer's Market.... Then they picked up Ardyn and came to our house to dress for the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Youth Minister from our church and her charges "flocked" our yard. The Journey To Adulthood kids (14 to 15 year olds) are going on a pilgrimage to Ireland, Wales, and England and are raising money for the trip. A flock of pink plastic flamingos lands on the front lawn, and you pay to have them fly home. We got two flocks to help us celebrate the wedding.

We left the girls to get dressed and all headed over to Umstead. The guests were arriving, the table was filling with food, and we were all keeping Keith calm.

The girls arrived but sort of hid in a cabin. The groom is not supposed to see the bride in her wedding dress until the ceremony. So they put on their crowns, tried to settle down, and watched us through the windows.
